An opportunity for an experienced and talented real estate lawyer to take up the position of General Counsel at an established yet fast-paced and adaptable residential property investment group, as they embark on a major period of growth. Focused solely on large-scale residential developments, they invest, develop and retain their assets setting them apart from other companies and allowing them to operate their integrated fully serviced lettings business, letting and managing over 2000 units across Greater London, the home counties and major cities across the UK.
As sole counsel within the business and reporting directly to the board you will work closely with other department heads (notably with the heads of construction and land) with a core focus on managing the acquisition of newly constructed residential buildings for rental purposes. As a key advisor to the business, you will also be responsible for broad range of legal matters across real estate, banking, construction, litigation, commercial, tax and corporate governance matters as well as managing external counsel. The role will also offer the opportunity to hire and manage a junior lawyer as the company grows.
Ideally, you will be 10+ PQE with strong post-qualification experience in a reputable law firm and/or as an in-house counsel (in a real estate business). Experience in large-scale residential and/or commercial investment and development as well as experience in acquisition of land or portfolios would be desirable. The ideal candidate will have strong project management and negotiation skills and possess a strategic business acumen and an ability to communicate and navigate between senior level internal and external stakeholders.
